As women, we face unique struggles.
Our society often sends us mixed messages that make it difficult to tune into our own voices, needs, and intuition about who we want to be and what kind of lives we want to create.
Sometimes it feels like there’s no way to please everyone.
And the answer is you can’t.
That’s why we will help you learn to prioritize yourself and discover your own values—your needs, your wants, your dreams, and not anyone else’s.
We’ll help you tune out the noise and get in touch with yourself.
Because of rigid societal standards, it’s not surprising why so many women are plagued by stress and depression.
Sad fact: women are twice as likely as men to be diagnosed with depression.
At My LA Therapy, we understand there isn’t just one way to be a woman.
Women have totally different values, temperaments, needs, and ways of expressing ourselves.
And there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to women’s therapy either.
That’s why your therapy sessions will be tailored specifically to your individual needs and experiences.
We understand that between work, family, children, relationships, and the inconsistent ups and downs, life can be challenging.
We will help you begin to become aware of unconscious forces that may shape your behavior and mental health in ways that aren’t serving you.
As we help you make the unconscious conscious, you will be empowered to face your life in a new way and create the life you really want.
As therapists, we guide you in seeing the blind spots that are getting in the way of you becoming your best self so you can find greater freedom, peace, and clarity.
While we are here to help you meet your personal goals, some examples of common goals for female-focused therapy are to help women develop skills such as assertiveness, self-empowerment, self-compassion, self-worth, and inner strength.
These skills can be very important in the future for relationships, self-love, and tasks such as finding a job or asking for a raise.
Your therapy sessions can also help you find your voice, build self-esteem, increase body confidence, create positive relationships, and become the best mother and role model for your children you can be.
Another important part of therapy involves learning how to set boundaries for yourself, learning how to say no when you are uncomfortable, and defending yourself from unwanted situations.
Raising your self-confidence as a woman is absolutely crucial in our male-dominated society, and it may be hard to do so by yourself.
That’s where we come in.
Some other issues that may be discussed in therapy are conditions such as life transitions, postpartum depression, infertility, motherhood, depression, and eating disorders.
Life transitioning, in particular, can bring up many difficulties.
Whether you are a young adult, middle-aged woman, or an older woman, moving onto the next phase of life may feel daunting.
Whether you’re getting married, having kids, starting a new career path, leaving a long-term career or relationship, having your kids leave home, or experiencing the first stages of menopause, these transitions may feel sudden and jarring.
Therapy is a useful tool to help make these life changes a little bit smoother.
We have a well-rounded team of strong, professional women at My LA Therapy and we’ll be happy to help you every step of the way.
Society is still evolving from its patriarchal history which dictates how the “ideal woman” should act and look.
Today, these expectations of women are perpetuated through social media, causing anxiety and unrealistic standards.
Facetune and other photoshop apps have made it tremendously easy for one to alter their entire physical appearance with just a click of a button, and it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to tell the real from the fake.
Social media influencers perpetuate the image of the ideal female while professionals in the industry post photoshopped pics of already beautiful models, which lowers the self-esteem of the “average person.”
Beauty standards have become more and more unattainable as society continues to become more and more unrealistic.
Eventually, these self-esteem issues may lead to depression, anxiety, or the development of an eating disorder, such as anorexia or bulimia.

Therapy can successfully improve your life by helping you minimize your anxiety, identifying and changing underlying thought and behavioral patterns that contribute to your struggles, and providing you with strategies to decrease discomfort while restoring an overall sense of peace.
To experience true and lasting joy in our life, we must face and conquer our pain by healing our underlying trauma and confronting our fears.
See the About Therapy page for a deeper look into this process.
Our evidence-based, scientifically proven interventions are demonstrated by research to be effective in addressing a wide range of mental health issues faced by women.
