Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) began as a model of how we communicate with ourselves and others. It explains how we process information that comes to us from the outside. With different styles of communicating to the unconscious mind, visualization has been proven to be one of the most effective and transformative techniques for working through traumas and limiting beliefs. When we go through an event, we make a internal representation (IR) of that event. Our IR includes our internal pictures, sounds and dialogue and our feelings (motivated, challenged, excited and so on). That IR of the event combines with physiology creates a state. A “state” being the emotional state of the individual. As we process the event we delete, distort and generalize the information that comes in and filter how we know best. With the unconscious mind driving the way we do most things. It is important to build connection between the conscious and unconscious things we hold onto.
