Helping Kids, Teens, & New Artists Find Their Voice Through Songwriting

At Santa Monica Soul Vocal Academy, songwriting is more than learning how to write a song.
It’s a process of discovering your voice creatively, emotionally, and artistically.
We help children, teens, and beginners develop the tools to turn their thoughts, feelings, and ideas into lyrics, melodies, and original songs, while building awareness, self-expression, and intuition along the way.
Through a structured yet flexible approach, students learn how to:

Write original lyrics and develop their own voice

Create melodies in a natural, accessible way

Express thoughts and emotions through music

Move past perfectionism and creative blocks

Build confidence through creative risk-taking

Develop their identity as an artist and learn vocal techniques and performance skills

Confidence Through Creative Expression

Our songwriting work is grounded in the Creative Processing Model, which helps students build intuition, self-awareness, and resilience through creativity.

Stream-of-consciousness writing

2

Identifying meaningful phrases &“song seeds”

3

Shaping ideas into a hook or chorus

4

Exploring melody in a low-pressure way

5

Using familiar songs as creative scaffolding

6

Learning simple structures for verses& choruses

We focus on helping students:

1. Trust their creative instincts.
2. Develop greater awareness of their thoughts
3. Connect with their inner experience
4. Stay engaged even when it feels challenging.
5. Experience the momentum of creating something uniquely theirs
