Helping Kids and Teens Find Their Voice & Artistry

At Santa Monica Soul Vocal Academy, our vocal training goes beyond technique. We help children and teens develop strong, confident voices while building the emotional tools they need to feel secure, expressive, and resilient, both on stage and in life.
We combine high-quality vocal training with age-appropriate tools that support self-awareness, presence, and confidence. This includes:

Breath and vocal technique (pitch, tone, control, articulation)

Performance coaching (stage presence, expression, connection)

Emotional regulation tools to manage nerves and overwhelm

Cognitive tools to shift negative self-talk (“I’m not good enough,” “I messed up”)

Confidence-building practices rooted in real skill development

Creative exploration through songwriting and poetry (optional)

This is not a one-size-fits-all music program. It is a space where kids and teens are supported as whole people through creative expression, vocal training, and performance.
Students don't just learn how to sing, they learn how to stay grounded, present, and confident while doing it.

Where Singing Builds Self-Awareness For Kids And Teens

What makes our vocal academy different is the integration of emotional, cognitive, and creative skill-building into the learning process for children and teens in Santa Monica.

Through the Creative Processing Model, students are gently introduced to:

  • Emotional regulation tools for managing nerves and overwhelm
  • Cognitive skills to shift negative self-talk
  • Confidence building through skill mastery and repetition
  • Creative risk-taking in a safe, supportive environment
  • Breathing techniques that help with both singing and emotional regulation

This is how confidence becomes internalized, self-awareness becomes embodied, and creative expression becomes second nature. Students learn how to express their feelings through singing and creative outlets, building healthier and more confident ways of navigating emotions.

Our Approach To Vocal Lessons For Kids And Teens

To start our singing lessons, students choose a song they love from their favorite artist. We don’t just teach kids how to sing a song. We teach them how to feel confident, connected, and embodied while singing it. This keeps them:

Engaged

Motivated

Emotionally connected

We use that song as the foundation for real skill-building.

1

Pitch and vocal accuracy

2

Breath control and tone

3

Articulation and phrasing

4

Stage presence and expression

5

Confidence through performance

6

Somatic awareness

As students grow, lessons expand with them. From there, students can optionally work on Other songs Of their choosing, learning basic chords and accompaniment, or even learning to write songs in the style Of their favorite artist. This creates a natural progression from singing to expressing to
creating.

Seed To Song Workshops: Songwriting For Children & Teens In Santa Monica

For students ready to go deeper into creativity, we offer Seed-to-Song Workshops, a structured, supportive introduction to songwriting.

Located in Santa Monica, these workshops are designed to make songwriting feel

1. Approachable   2. Intuitive   3. Pressure-free

Even for kids who have never written a song before.
Students are guided through simple but powerful exercises:

  • Using their favorite song as a creative scaffold
  • Starting with a word, phrase, or idea that resonates
  • Exploring thoughts and feelings through guided writing
  • Identifying meaningful lines or “song seeds”
  • Shaping those ideas into a hook or chorus
  • Experimenting with melody in a low-pressure way
  • Learning skills for creative lyric writing drawing from the 5 senses

The focus is all about helping students:

  • Trust their ideas and take creative risks
  • Express something authentic and original
  • And experience the excitement of creating something from nothing

By the end, students don’t just learn about songwriting, they leave with the beginning of a song and voice that is uniquely theirs.
