Multi-Cultural and Diversity Issues
ABOUT MUTLI-CULTURAL AND DIVERSITY ISSUES
As mental health providers, we understand how important it is to be sensitive to issues of diversity within our clients. Cultural, beliefs, and customs can often influence the way people engage and view each other, this can take place whether it’s positive or negative. Sometimes, people who are from different cultural groups can be discriminated or negatively stereotyped. These occurrences can be due to certain differences from another existing main culture. It can often be frustrating to understand specific situations and multicultural issues, however through proper exploration, accommodation and suggestions can be beneficial.
A therapist who works with multi-cultural and diversity issues has the awareness, knowledge and skills to work effectively with culture, gender, religion, sexual orientation and more. Through different approaches, a variation in the style of communication, understanding cultural values and beliefs, we fully understand each aspect pertaining to the multi-cultural and diversity issues one can face.
We recognize that individuals seeking professional services represent a growing variety of backgrounds, and we understand that people from different backgrounds have different values, practices, and beliefs, and are sensitive to those differences when working with individuals and families in therapy. Being fully aware of any cultural differences while understanding them, regardless of multicultural issues plays a crucial role in obtaining successful outcomes.
We work with you from a place of cultural sensitivity, with awareness of experiences and issues unique to LGBTQ+, women, people of color and various religious backgrounds – understanding that this is a central piece of your experience and identity that must be incorporated into the therapeutic process.
