Massage Therapy for Trauma
ABOUT MASSAGE THERAPY FOR TRAUMA
It’s hard to have a trauma-conscious movement without acknowledging the impact of massage, manual therapies and yoga therapy. Our nervous system is a dance of synapses and chemistry, combining to get us going and also to slow us down. Since a lot of our bodies information is closely tied to the limbic system in the brain, how we feel in our bodies and how our nervous system is functioning can directly affect our mood. When things are operating smoothly, we are capable of facing challenges with resilience and poise. Oftentimes however we loose our moments of stillness and breath, which sends us off balance, leaving our nervous systems scrambling to cope. Hands on therapy, bodywork and massage, are essential for finding our body in balance and rhythmic breathing once again. When we get the bodywork right it is amazing to see how transformative it can be on behavior and mood.
