ABOUT DEPRESSION THERAPY

Sadness is present in everyone’s life to some extent, but when it is accompanied by feeling hopeless, worthless, or numb, it’s time to get help. Whether you are simply going through a rough time or are in the throes of severe depression, therapy can help to identify and change underlying patterns of thought and behavior that are contributing to these feelings and can provide strategies to decrease the pain and restore a sense of joy, peace, and competence. DEPRESSION SYMPTOMS

Most people think of depression as synonymous with sadness, but depression can manifest itself in many ways that may not be apparent to the untrained eye such as:

  • Lethargy, fatigue or loss of energy
  • Loss of interest, lack of motivation, lack of pleasure
  • Feelings of hopelessness or emptiness
  • Hypersomnia or increased need for sleep
  • Insomnia or difficulty sleeping
  • Weight loss or weight gain not due to dieting or exercise
  • Increased or decreased appetite
  • Feeling worthless or guilty
  • Difficulty thinking, concentrating or making decisions
  • Thoughts of hurting yourself or self-injurious behaviors (e.g. cutting)*
  • Thoughts of death or suicide*
