You need to take the traumas and make them part of who you are, to fold the worst events of your life into a narrative of triumph, creating a better self in response what hurts. -Andrew Solomon
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) develops after you have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event in which serious physical harm occurred or was threatened. PTSD is a lasting consequence of traumatic events that cause intense fear, helplessness, or horror, such as a sexual or physical assault, the unexpected death of a loved one, an accident, war, or natural disaster.
Living with PTSD can be unbearable. Most people who experience a traumatic event will have reactions that may include shock, anger, nervousness, fear, and even guilt. These reactions are common, and for most people, they go away over time. For a person with PTSD, however, these feelings continue and even increase, becoming so strong that they keep the person from living a normal life.
Moving at a pace that is comfortable for you, we will help you begin to develop the strength to face what you have been avoiding. We use a variety of scientifically proven therapy treatments to help you overcome PTSD. As you face your fears and realize you are strong enough to handle them, you will gradually release the grip that PTSD has on your life.
