Deaf and Hard of Hearing Therapy

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Therapy

As a graduate of Gallaudet University, I am a multiculturally competent clinical counselor and have the ability to work with Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing clients of diverse backgrounds. Therefore, I am skilled in providing culturally and linguistically affirmative services to Deaf individuals and their families through the use of American Sign Language (ASL), signed English, and spoken English. It’s important that I make sure to match my clients’ communication needs and preferences.

I take into consideration how Deaf clients’ lives are shaped by their identity and experiences as a member of their cultural and linguistic background. This is done by being mindful of the counseling relationship. As a hearing therapist, I want to ensure my clients’ comfort regarding our identity differences. My goal is to make therapy accessible to your cultural and communication needs as we work together to determine the best possible road to emotional and psychological well-being.

  • Mental and emotional issues
  • Deaf individuals of hearing parents
  • Hearing individuals of Deaf parents
  • Family communication differences
  • Deaf identity
  • Recipients of Cochlear Implants
  • Pre-lingual and late-onset hearing loss

I see counseling as a collaborative relationship. Individuals move along a path to empowerment and self-awareness. I’m deeply committed to helping clients focus on their goals and building on existing strengths to cope with life’s challenges in a safe, open, and non-judgmental environment. I consider myself to be an eclectic and integrative therapist. My style is tailored to the needs of each client and focuses on meeting each individual on where they are in their journey.

holistic approach is used to treatment, where the importance of the mind-body relationship is emphasized. We will discuss the overall effects that thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and our environment have on our life experiences. My work supports individuals in developing a deeper understanding and connection with themselves, stronger more fulfilling relationships with others, as well as the overall life balance and satisfaction strengthened by positive mental and emotional health.
